Caption in picture: if you are tired of the cold and snow raise your hands!

Good morning everyone!!! we are actually getting a gorgeous day today..yesterday started off nice but then it looked like the wizard of Oz..it got black and dark and kind of rainy..just a blah sort of day..but we girls did have fun making stuff for the get together..I think it could have gone better...like having something to snack on since it was lunch time..I was in such a hurry (whats new) that didn't eat anything before I left..I am glad I made banana bread..and it was all gone by the time we left..I think everyone was hungry..so next time there should be a pot luck as we were there from 1pm till after 5pm..I didn't do anything but help the gals out with their designs as I wore nice clothes and didn't want to get paint on myself..Poor Sarah brought her cricut with her and all she did was cut out peoples things..and they pretty much used all of her supplies as well..paper boards etc..so I didn't get anything done yesterday except get that sheep done and in the mail..going to work on some UFO's today.. and get them sent off..
I am getting a trencher something like this..Mattie agreed to do a swap with me..so she is getting a prim doll and a wool sheep pillow..;) I can't wait..so that is one of the UFO's that needs to be done..that dollie..;)
a while back I got a wonderful treat in the mail from my blogging pal Theanne..she sent me all of these wonderful vintage buttons...and I have used them in my penny rugs too.;)
I pulled out a few of my favorites..there are little bitty elephants there never seen anything like it..She told me the story of these buttons and she said I could share it with you all..

Hi Gina...the button story...My Mom and Dad grew up during WWI and were young parents during the depression and WWII and they both came from large families (9 and 7 respectively).. Neither one of them threw anything away...so some of the older buttons date back to the 1930s...they were married in 1933. When something wore out my Mom would cut the buttons off and save them...plus when my sister and I were small she made clothes for us and of course, saved the extra buttons. The elephants were on something that was mine...can't remember if it was handmade or store bought. Old buttons had very interesting shapes, sizes and colors. She had a small sewing chest (with legs) and the buttons were collected in there from 1933 til about the 1970s when she'd pretty much stopped sewing. I used to play with them when I was a kid, I loved the colors and the shapes and dividing them into the different shades of each color. She died in 2000 and I became heir to her personal possessions, I didn't have a chance to go through Mom and Dad's things til right before I moved back to Florida in 2010. So the buttons stayed in the sewing chest from the 1930s till 2010 when I discovered them again. I vaguely remember the thimble...playing with it when I was a kid...I have no idea who it belonged to originally it could have been my mother's mother, my mother, my sister, I don't remember it belonging to me. I started sewing when I took Home Economics when I was about 13...I had a normal sized thimble. Anyway I so liked the blue button eye on Kitty Blue that I thought you could put these button to good use, no sense me hanging on to them...they'd just go to a thrift store when I pass on...which isn't a bad thing but I'd rather they be put to use now. I suppose they're a little bit Prim...*smile* I know you can make them look very Prim! So enjoy,

okay who is ready for their daily bingo words?

I hope you all have a wonderful day today..;) I will see you again tomorrow...and welcome to my newest followers..:>)

  8. Thanks for coming to visit me on my blog! I love to know that you were there and I enjoy coming to visit you. You are always up to something interesting. That is so touching that the button lady sent you her buttons instead of letting them sit in darkness unused.

  9. I love buttons! When I was a little girl my Grandmother would let me play with her buttons. I was very fortunate to inherit all those buttons when Grandma died. I love to pour them out on the table and ohh and ahh over the buttons....Grandpa's long john buttons, Grandma's bath robe buttons, coat buttons, military buttons, clear buttons, buttons with stone centers, on and on! I also inherited my Mother-in-law's buttons when she became unable to sew due to blindness. Buttons tell such a story....each and every one of them. Enjoy your buttons!
