WhaTchA WoRkIng On WeDneSdAy...

Hey there Everyone!! sorry for the late post...but I took my Tucker puppy for a walk today..haven't done that by myself since we had him..I am going to try and get him out when he's home with me and the day is beautiful..and today it was sunny and gorgeous..so I need to get my butt in gear and start losing weight and he need some time out as well..This is what I have been working on the last day or two..My MIL's birthday is today so I made her a jacket with her puppy dog Maggie on it..I made the seam binding that is on the front of the jacket with my new seam binder machine that I got for christmas at Joanns...Quilters and sewers this is the neatest machine ever and so easy..It took the hard work of ironing it all out as you put it through the machine and it folds and irons it for you in like an instant!!..totally worth the money!!..I added rick-rack to the bottom of her jacket for a touch of whimsy..:)

that is the back of the jacket..
I also changed out my fall curtains above to my more springy attire below..

Yesterday I was in cleaning mode..I moved all the furniture and swept out all the large dust bunnys etc..and I made my laundry detergent..was running really low on it..amazing how much this makes..and it lasts for at least 6-9 months..at least for me it does..the above are 3 of the ingredients you need..1 box of borax(4lbs) 2 boxes arm & Hammer baking soda (4lbs), 1 box arm & hammer Washing soda (4lbs) I had to purchase that one on line..can't find it here.
You also need 3 bars of Fels Naptha Soap (grated) or Ivory, castile or Pink Zote soap..I too had to order that pink zote on line..I got the really big bars of it..so I only grate up one..
If you have a handy dandy salad shooter I just cut up the soap in big chunks and run it through...makes this job super easy..and its soap..so it washes up..
here it is all grated..
and all mixed up and this is the extra...
All set to wash up my clothes..you will need 1 tablespoon for lightly soiled clothing 2 tablespoons for heavy soiled clothing..I don't measure, I have a scoop and just add about 3 to each load depending on how big the load is..it will not suds up like regular detergent does..so beware of that..I have my fabric softener in an old jar and I also keep white vinegar on hand to use as fabric softener..your clothes come out fresh and clean no vinegar smell and your washer smells better too..
Last but not least...Sue over at Country Pleasures had this recipe on her blog..Italian Macaroni and cheese and I just happen to have all of the ingredients on hand..so last night I made it...that is the only thing we ate..Dear Hubby ate 3 helpings he liked it so much...We are having that with Ham tonight..so dinner will be a cinch..:) I have a couple of more things I need to finish up for my mother in law..will post them when they are done...gotta put this in the mail tomorrow...hope your Wednesday is/was a good one..:) thanks for stopping by..:)

  3. Maybe it is my 54 year old eyes but I could barely read your post today.

I did make out the jacket - ADORABLE and I have to look up that recipe for the mac and cheese!

I have heard of the homemade liquid laundry soap but never the dry. We have really hard water - I wonder how it would work??

  4. Gina,
I can't say how many times I have thought about making my own laundry detergent but I keep getting held up with the deal. I guess the fact that it's so hard to find the washing soda is one...I just need to jump in and try it!

The jacket is cute. I'm sure she'll love it, especially that you made it so personal :)

  9. HI Gina. I love to make home made laundry soap. I searched EVERYWHERE for the Zote soap, and never found it, always used the fels naptha soap.....however, a girlfriend gave me a bar of zote along with a Christmas gift this year because she had discovered how great it is for pre spoting. Low and behold, I can buy it at Macys in Orem! So I'm going to stock up next time I go! The washing soda I can get here in town at the Grosery stores. When you come to Ut next time you'll have to take some back with you.....well, I guess if you drive down....
The jacket is way cute!!! That's something you can cross off your list huh! LOL
    Enjoy your day.

  14. Great Jacket!

And you have inspired me with your laundry detergent. I went to the grocery store this morning and found all the ingredients, but I do have some questions for you. Since this is a dry formula, do you have to wash everything on a hot or warm water setting? And can you use it with a front loading washer?
