It'S FaT FrEe FriDaY..;)

Good Morning Peeps!! well for another 6 minutes that is..I have been asked how I am losing my weight and able to eat my sweets too..so I am going to share with you what I use in baking and a fat free recipe (or really low in calories)..that you can indulge a little bit here and there..I will call it fat free friday..(course we shall see how well I remember to do this)..but hopefully you will see how you can adapt your own baking recipes with some of the ingredients I have shown you here and just play with your recipes...it if doesn't work..try something different..above is almond flour..it is using real almonds and making them into a flour..almonds are good for you..lots of protein to keep you full longer..
buckwheat flour and wheat germ used in baking..I have a wonderful salmon topped pancake (using buckwheat flour) that is to die for. here is the recipe..;) and here are more recipes for using this flour..
I love Bob's red mill items..you can get gluten free..steel cut oats are for making hot cereals..and spelt flour for baking..read these labels..here is a link so you can read what they are and fit it into your needs:>)
I sometimes use the no calorie sweetner..I don't like it in my jams as much..it gives off a weird flavor..so will use real sugar and this to cut back in the future..oat bran and flaxseed meal..I love flaxseed meal..you can replace eggs for this in your baking..its says on the back of the package..Flaxseed meal makes a great egg subsitute for most recipes..For one egg simply mix 1TBSP flaxseed meal with 3 TBSP water in a small bowl and let sit 2 minutes..Add to a recipe as you would an egg.. I have used this many times..and you can not tell the difference and it has 4 grams of fiber..
white whole wheat flour..I don't use all whole wheat when I bake as the items come out flat..so mix a bit of regular (I love unbleached flour) with the whole wheat and almond flour..If it calls for 2 cups of flour..just make a concoction of these flours to equal the 2 cups..experiment..
and in place of oil and butter..I use unsweetened applesauce..equal parts to the oil..and I use the agave nectar in place of the sugar..1/4 cup per 1 cup sugar..you can also use honey..read the labels to see which is lower in sugar and go with that one..remember we are trying to keep the sugars and carbs healthier..
I like this cereal on the left..but you only get a small amount of it..and I don't know about you..but cereal does not keep me full..so you can use this in your baking as well..I just found these sugar free cookies..they are wonderful..
my new favorite tortillia with 13 grams of fiber in one tortilla and on Doctor Oz last week he had this tasty treat or a nice breakfast..you take a tortilla. spread a tablespoon of peanut butter (natural) just not reduced fat peanut butters as they have hydrogenated oils in them..(the bad fats)..I purchased it and now I won't eat..I love the natural..cut up a 1/2 of a banana and put it on top and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top..roll it up and eat..I usuall do 2 of these as I have a tendancy not to eat lunch or its a very late breakfast..and they fill you up and curb that sweet craving because of the peanut butter..sometimes I will eat a small spoonful of peanut butter just to curb my "whatever" craving..
I purchased this the other day to dip fruits and things for the holidays..its microwaveable chocolate shells...might be another tasty way to get your chocolate fix and your fruit fix..
I made these fingerless gloves yesterday..I love this pattern..again from my friend Bella..(see previous post)..going to sit down and do more crocheting today..might try to get Tucker out for a walk..didn't do it yesterday..I was just too cold and tired..this bleary weather doesn't motivate me in the slightest...I want my sunshine..
and here they are on a hand..I love those buttons..going to make these the same color with the black trim..and I have these same buttons in red..nice little pop to the center of the flour...
Okay here is a recipe from my "dated" book..I will tell you at the end how I would do it..

Applesauce Oatmeal Cookies
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup sugar ( I would substitute 1/4 cup agave nectar)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup dark raisins
(if you need a chocolate fix throw in a 1/2 to 1 cup chocolate chips..the darker the better) or with more of that carob that is good for you..
Combine the oats, flour, baking soda and nutmeg and stir to mix well. Add the applesauce, sugar (agave nectar) and vanilla extract and stir well..Stir in raisins and chocolate chips (optional chips)
spray cookie sheet with pam. rolls dough in to 1 inch balls..(I use my pampered chef scoop..or what ever you have on hand..place 1-1/2 inches apart..flatten the cookies to 1/4 inch thickness..I just use my hand to do this..
Bake at 275 for about 22 minutes, or until lightly browned..Transfer to wire racks and cool completely..serve immediately (like they have to tell me this) or transfer to an air tight containe and arrange in a single layer(s) seperated by sheets of wax paper..
I've noticed they have reduced the oven temperature and upped the baking time with the "fat free baking...so something to think about when you adapt your own baking recipes.;)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone..and let me know how your baking goes.;O) I am off to get my "brunch" on..I am hungry..might have one of those banana/peanut butter cinnamon tortillas x 2..yumm..

  6. Hi, Gina:
I never knew there were so many different types of flour and sugar subs. The flax meal for eggs was a real surprise. Thanks for all of these great tips, sweets are my biggest weakness when trying to lose weight.
