  1. Gina,
Just wanted to let you know that I liked your question on "What do I sell my dish towels for?" that I put the answer into a post on my blog. That way I can share it with others that might be wondering the same thing. Hope it is helpful to you.
Love all the Goodies that you got today! It is so much fun to get goodies in the mail!!
    Talk to you again soon.

  2. Hi Gina,
Sorry that the formula is confusing. If I put a design on a towel that has a stitch count of 4000, that would be $4.00($1.00 per 1000 stitches), then I would add the price I paid for the towel ($1.00) making my total selling price $5.00) The $4.00 is my profit per towel. I try to stay at a low count if I can because they take alot less time to stitch out.

I wish I could go by an hourly rate or even the $2.00 per 1000 stitches like my friend in Tenn. When I first starting embroidering on towels about 8 years ago I sold them for $7.00 and $8.00 but had to figure out new pricing 2 years ago when craft shows sales slowed way down.

Just to give you an idea how much sales have drop in our area at craft shows: It use to be if you made 10 times what your booth fee was, you had a good show. Now it is if you make 3 times what you booth fee is, you had a good show. I can sell my items for more money on eBay than I can at my craft shows.

If you are selling your towels at $7.00, then I think you have them priced right for your area. I was so shocked when my friend was able to sell her items for double what I can. Funny how prices can vary so much in different areas of the US. I'm jealous, can I come live with one of you guys! LOL..

  3. Gina,
We don't have any shows here that take a commission of your sales. I been doing shows for 24 years. When they were so big in the late 80's & early 90's, I was doing about 12 shows a years. This year, I had planned on only doing one but it is now 3 and I might had another show since I am trying to pay off my new sewing machine.

I've done small shows that booth fees are $30 to $45 and I've done bigger shows that booth fees are $175 to $250. I've kept the shows that my sales are still really good at.(I'm still making the 10 times or more of my booth fee at them.) The one that I might still add this year is one that I have not done for the last 2 years because it was going down hill. I went last year to walk around and fellow crafters said that sells were good again. It is a Christmas show and had been one of my favorite for years, so I'm thinking hard about doing it.

The Sauerkraut Festival is my favorite and this will be my 20th year there. In all the years that I've done it, I've never had a bad show! I want to slow down and retire from shows. Just sale on eBay and Etsy, but this show may be hard to give up. Guess I could only do one a year!
